A born communicator, Steve earned his insights through many years of hard work in the industry, beginning with hands-on bench work as a clinical microbiologist. During an 11-year tenure with an international medical diagnostics company based in the UK, Steve rose from Sales Representative to Director of International Sales and Marketing. He then moved to the US and held a role as Business Unit Manager for Centocor, a leading biopharmaceutical company. His corporate experience was followed by several years as an ad agency executive, not only at his own company, but also at New York-based Euro RSCG Life. Steve provides marketing knowledge and business wisdom distilled from over 25 years of healthcare experience.
MICKEY MCDERMOTT, B.S., M.S., Ph.D.
HEAD OF CONTENT & ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY
As the old saying goes, “truth is stranger than fiction.” In some ways, Mickey McDermott’s career is just that—a series of unconventional experiences that have made him uniquely suited to help our animal health and life science clients connect and engage with their audiences. After earning a bachelor’s degree in dairy science from Texas A&M and a master’s in animal science from Cornell, Mickey decided to steer away from animal science to pursue a career in marketing and marketing communications with an independent agency in New York. In the 3+ decades since, he alternated between human and animal health, and between the agency and pharmaceutical/animal health company sides of marketing, strategy, and agency content and creative disciplines. And, in the midst of it all, Mickey completed a part-time, distance PhD at the University of Nottingham with a focus on veterinary communication. Today, he’s come full-circle—returning to animal health and the agency world, working to deliver powerful content and engagement initiatives with his colleagues and clients.
ERIN REED EVANS
HEAD OF CREATIVE
Erin is the member of our dynamic leadership team who oversees all creative projects (as well as our wily pack of creative professionals). Before coming to us, she worked for the Dudnyk Healthcare Group and Saatchi & Saatchi, as well as a diverse portfolio of clients as a freelancer. An award-winning Creative Director, Erin spent 13 years in human pharma before expanding into beverage, financial, and small business owner advertising. When she’s not leaping tall buildings in a single bound here at Circa, Erin plays hero to her spouse, two sons, a dog, a cat, and three fish at home. She also volunteers as the manager of her sons’ baseball teams and participates in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life each year — all without needing tights and a cape.
JOHN KIRTON, Ph.D.
CLIENT ENGAGEMENT DIRECTOR
John traded the rigors of academia for the “glamor” of communications 8 years ago (and never looked back!). He brings an extensive scientific background, as well as curiosity and imagination, to client relationships and his role as Client Engagement Director. Prior to entering the creative agency world, John was a postdoctoral research associate at 2 of the world's leading research and teaching universities: King’s College London and Manchester University, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree (Hons) in biochemistry and a doctor of philosophy in molecular biology. Ever the overachiever, John also runs marathons in his spare time, including a 155-mile race in China called the Gobi March, which is part of the 4 Deserts Race Series known as “the ultimate test of human endurance.” He’s also a passionate football fan (that’s soccer for those in the US) and father of 2.
AMANDA RICHARDS, M.S., M.A.
HEAD OF PEOPLE AND COMMUNITY
Amanda has always been a people person, but it wasn’t until her senior year at Penn State that she discovered the thrilling amalgamation of people and business strategy known as Human Resources. Rather than changing course to pursue her HR dream at PSU, she finished an Arts program and went on to pursue a double master’s at Rutgers University, graduating with an M.S. in Human Resource Management and an M.A. in Labor and Industrial Relations. Amanda’s professional career began at KPMG Peat Marwick, where she quickly discovered her ambition to make more of a hands-on difference. Ultimately, she left the “Big Four” to drive HR strategy for several smaller technical companies, eventually settling into a role guiding companies of various sizes and industries as an HR Consultant. And that is when fate intervened. In 2015, Amanda was introduced to Circa Healthcare and officially joined the team in 2018, relishing the opportunity to work with a creative, kind, and forward-thinking group of people. When she’s not working to further inspire the Circa Healthcare team, Amanda enjoys karate, skiing, and wrangling her 2 children.
